Chapter Eight: Shining Lights
This chapter highlights those aspects of the service mission of the university that are by-products of its essential activities. In carrying out its basic functions of research, education, and co-curricular student activities, such as athletics, the university makes available to its own community and the region major intellectual, political, and cultural figures and events. The chapter contains significant examples of these activities over the life of the institution.
