All UMD students are required to declare a major when they have accumulated 45 credit hours. Those students who have accumulated 45 or more credit hours and have not declared a major will have a hold placed on their registration. The hold will be lifted once a major has been declared. You may obtain a change of major form from the Registrar’s Office.

Each major within the college requires 27 credit hours or 9 courses. Generally, each major has 24 credits of course work within the major and a 3 credit business elective. A business elective is any 300 or 400 level course in the College of Business. NOTE: ACT 355 cannot be used as an elective by non-Accounting majors.  Once you have chosen your major, get an option sheet that is specific for that major.
