INFORMATION RE:
CHANGE OF MAJOR TO NURSING
FAQ Sheet
If you wish to change your major to nursing, you may wish to consider the following information.
1. How do I submit a change of major?
You may submit a Change of Major form to the Dean of Nursing located in Dion 202. It will be reviewed in March and decisions will be announced in April. Change of Major forms may be obtained in the Registrar's Office or in the Academic Advising Center located in the Foster Administration Building.
2. What should I do while I am waiting to hear if I am accepted?
a. Make an appointment with a career counselor in the Career Resource Center 508-999-8417 to discuss what you will do if you are not accepted into nursing. In 2006-2007 only 4 change of major students were accepted into UMass Dartmouth College of Nursing.
b. Apply to other nursing programs as soon as possible. Review the school's website for information about applying. You can find all the accredited schools of nursing in Massachusetts on the Nursing Board of Registration's Website: http://www.mass.gov/Eeohhs2/docs/dph/quality/boards/rnnecpro.pdf
3. Why is it so difficult to get into the College of Nursing?
All over the country, thousands of qualified students are not able to be admitted to nursing programs. This is largely due to the shortage of nursing faculty to teach them. This faculty shortage, coupled with the need for clinical practice resources, limits the number of students who can be accepted into nursing.
