Strategic Resource Allocation
During the second quarter of the previous fiscal year, the budget staff was busy developing a tool that could be used to help transition from a historic method of allocating resources to a more strategic method. Once the concept is finalized, the template will be used to help outline the business needs for each of our university's functional areas. The template wil showcase departments' core services and link their missions to the university's strategic goals. It will provide an opportunity to describe the business units from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective.
The first phase of this process involved preparing A&F departments to transition from a base allocation to a strategic allocation of resources through analysis and reporting of the individual business units. Initial work in this area was defined and introduced to several A&F departments starting in January of this year and the exercise has continued throughout the remaining A&F departments through the end of this year. The goal is to have all of the A&F departments analyzed by the end of July 2013.
The second phase will involve a closer look at academic departments and with consultation from the academics, define a template which can be applied to all Academic Affairs departments. The goal would be to have all Academic Departments analyzed and reported, ready to receive strategic allocations for FY14.
