New Labor Relations Specialist in Human Resources
Human Resources recently added a new position of Labor Relations Specialist to its team. Kimberly Sylvia joined the Human Resources team in this management role in November. She was formerly with the Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality. Kim has been a member of the university community for over 12 years and her experience as a former union President has provided her with a wealth of experience in this field. She is also working toward her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources.
A unionized campus has unique challenges. Often, our managers oversee staff that fall into different unions, each having their own contract and particular language.
In keeping with Human Resource’s commitment to offering exceptional customer service, one of the main roles of this position will be to serve as a resource to our management team and supervisors. Kim will also be a key player in fostering open communication and improved relations between union and management.
Kim is available to the campus community for contract interpretation, guidance on grievance/discipline process, promotional language and any other labor relations issues that arise. She can be reached in Human Resources at x8081 or ksylvia@umassd.edu.
