Corsair Hall of Fame Grand Opening

Twenty-one former inductees and several more campus and community friends of UMass Dartmouth Athletics were on hand Friday night (January 27) for the Corsair Hall of Fame Grand Opening Ceremony.

Chancellor Jean MacCormack was joined by Administration and Fiscal Services Vice Chancellor and COO Deb McLaughlin and Athletic Director Ian Day in the cutting of a ceremonial ribbon to officially open the new Corsair Hall of Fame located in the Tripp Athletic Center lobby.

"We wanted to create a space to celebrate our past and establish a permanent connection with the student-athletes who have made special contributions to our athletic history and success as a department," said UMass Dartmouth Director of Athletics Ian Day. "It is important that students feel that they have a connection to the university long after they have graduated. We want to build on the connection our former athletes have with their alma mater. Now we have a space that will allow us to do that through our Corsair Hall of Fame."

The new Corsair Hall of Fame includes class plaques recognizing the previous 24 Hall of Fame classes with the names of each team and individual inductee. The new display area also contains trophy cases featuring team and individual awards from more recent UMass Dartmouth athletic history in addition to trophies from the two predecessor institutions – Bradford Durfee College of Technology and New Bedford Textile Institute.
