Basic Information
Vaccination
There is a vaccine to protect against the H1N1 flu virus. As always, a vaccine is available to protect against seasonal flu.
What you can do
These important everyday actions can help prevent the spread of germs that cause the flu and other respiratory illnesses:
- If you’re sick, stay home from school or work, and limit contact with others.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cough or sneeze into your sleeve instead of into your hands. Watch this YouTube video!
- Throw used tissues into the trash.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, to reduce the spread of germs.
- Don't share food, drinks, utensils and other similar items.
Flu symptoms
Symptoms of H1N1 flu can include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Body aches
- Headache
- Chills
- Fatigue
Many people have also reported nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
What to do
If you have flu symptoms, stay home and call your health care provider.
