Planning, economic experts see recovery hope in rail, BioPark

Angappa Gunasekaran, the director of the Business Innovation Research Center at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, thinks Fall River doesn’t have to redefine itself much in order to prosper again. Manufacturing work is still needed, he said, except now it’s more associated with shipping, third-party logistics and working with service providers. The key, Gunasekaran said, is to work hard attracting businesses to locate to Fall River, something he feels hasn’t been done enough. “For a long-term strong economy for the region, the lawmakers should encourage manufacturing operations,” he said.  In the current economy, many businesses will face setbacks. Yet, research shows, it isn't the existence of problems that separate successful companies from those that crumble, but their ability to bounce back from them.
