Fifth Annual Dartmouth Botulinum Research Symposium and Workshop will be held at UMass Dartmouth campus on August 17-19, 2011. Previous symposia in this series have been very successful in bringing together many researchers from academia, government laboratories, and the industry.

This symposium provides a unique format to get researchers from academia, industry, government labs, and policy makers to get together in a more informal setting than other typical conferences. This gives better opportunity for fostering relevant discussions.

Over the years the Symposium has attracted several program officers from DoD (DARPA and DTRA), DHS, FDA, and NIH, several of our industrial collaborators, and our long term collaborators who also work with the Center for funding and research.

The university's new BSL-3 facility with provision for GMP suite inside is attractive to both biodefense as well as biopharmaceutical applications. We have been holding successful workshops on botulinum assays every summer for the past 3 years.

This year's Workshop (organized by Drs. Venkat Kodumudi of RadixBiosolutions, Shashi Sharma of FDS, and Shuowei Cai of UMass Dartmouth) on Botulinum Assays, Detection, and Diagnostics was planned for August 17-18, 2011.

The Symposium commenced in the afternoon of August 18, and concluded after dinner on August 19, 2011.
