Description: Memorial Acharya Ramsamooj Arya Lecture Series, Inaugural Lecture.

The Center for Indic Studies memorializes the life of Acharya Ramsamooj through this lecture series in his name and spirit. He was deeply involved with the Hindu reform movement and was the spiritual head (Acharya) of Arya Prathinidhi Sabha of Trinidad and Tobago.

Lecture Topic: "Vedic Perspective of the World: Understanding the nature of God (Ishwara), Soul (Jiva), and the Universe (Prakriti)"

Speaker: Darshanand Ramdass, Ph.D.

Bio: Darshanand Ramdass, PhD studied Vedic lore and Sanskrit Grammar of Panini and Patanjali in gurukuls in India for 15 years. He earned the title of Acharya after finishing his Sanskrit studies. His interest lies primarily in applying Vedic ideas in todays world to improve people's lives. Currently, he teaches children in summer camps, temples, and home gatherings (satsangs).

Dr. Ramdass is also adjunct professor at City University of New York (CUNY) senior and graduate colleges, and postdoctoral fellow at the Graduate Center (CUNY) and New York University (NYU)in New York. His research interests are embedded in a social cognitive model of self-regulation for improving students' academic performance and motivation to learn.
