Academic Profile

Before joining UMass-Dartmouth in September 2005, Dr. Chidiebere Nwaubani had been at the University of Colorado-Boulder as an Associate Professor of African History (2002-05) and as an Assistant Professor (1995-2002). He had previously been a history faculty at Imo State University in Nigeria (1986-94). Dr. Nwaubani received his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1995; MA from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1983; and BA (Second Class Honors, Upper Division) from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria in 1979. He is the author of The United States and Decolonization in West Africa, 1950-1960 (University of Rochester Press, 2001). At the moment, Dr. Nwaubani's primary research project is "Nigeria: The Politics of Decolonization, 1937-1960," a subject on which he has done extensive primary research in Nigeria, Britain, and in the United States. This project has won several grants and fellowships, including membership of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, New Jersey; a Kluge Fellowship of the Library of Congress, Washington DC; and a British Academy Visiting Fellowship. Dr. Nwaubani's teaching interest is primarily in African history.
