     Fourteen faculty currently offer a Bachelor of Science (with a General Biology or Marine Biology Option) to approximately 350 undergraduate majors (one of the largest majors at UMass Dartmouth). We view undergraduate education as critical to developing an understanding and application of the patterns and processes of life to students' own professional and personal lives, and to fostering an enduring "chaos of delight" with the living world.

Students in our Master of Science in Biology and Marine Biology programs enjoy strongly individualized guidance in areas allied to the research interests of the faculty. 

The unrooted tree of the eukaryotes (above) is based on 16S-like ribomsomal RNA adapted generally from 1999 representations by Mitchell Sogin (Marine Biological Laboratory) and David Patterson (University of Melbourne).
