Alumni

UMass Dartmouth's chemistry/biochemistry department has maintained a strong position as a leading source of bachelor's level chemists, by virtue of our

  • emphasis on undergraduate education
  • ongoing communications and collegial interactions among students and faculty
  • opportunities for students to participate in faculty-led projects and research

Among public universities in New England whose chemistry departments have been accredited by the American Chemical Society, UMass Dartmouth ranks highly in the number of B.S. chemists graduated. And our graduates routinely go on to major graduate and professional schools in pursuit of advanced degrees or readily find employment in industry.

Our alumni have pursued or are currently pursuing advanced degrees at such schools as Brown, Harvard, Iowa State, MIT, Tufts, UCal Berkley and Yale. Our graduates have embarked on professional careers in teaching, medicine, mathematics, polymer design, chemical engineering, government service, research, business and industry, and the many branches of chemistry and biochemistry: analytical, biophysical, clinical, forensic, inorganic, marine and organic. Employers include Battery Engineering Inc., Clean Harbors, duPont, Eli Lilly, General Electric, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, New England Power, Ocean Spray, Pfizer Inc., Toxicon, Waters Associates, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the US Naval Research Laboratory.
