Professor Cohen came to UMass Dartmouth in 2005. Much of his early published work focuses on the relationships between early modern literature and the history of science and technology. His first book Shakespeare and Technology: Dramatizing Early Modern Technological Revolutions was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2006. His second book entitled Technology and the Early Modern Self was published by Palgrave Macmillan in March of 2009.

He is currently writing a lengthy essay which will be published in Oxford University Press's forthcoming book entitled The Handbook of Shakespeare. He has published articles and review essays in The Sixteenth Century Journal, The Journal for Early Modern Cultural Studies, Shakespeare Yearbook, A Companion to Tudor Literature.

Professor Cohen's recent battle with brain cancer has lead him to refocus much of his current research. He recently completed a draft of a book about his cancer-related experiences that carries the title Memoir of a Shakespeare Professor.
