Dr. Holly Baker received her Ph.D. in English literary studies, emphasizing in creative writing with a focus on the novel. She teaches in the First-Year English program here at UMD, as well some upper-level writing courses. During the 2015-2016 school year, she lived abroad in Bucharest on a Fulbright research grant, spending the year conducting research in support of her novel. There, she taught creative writing to students at the University of Bucharest and conducted workshops at American Corners throughout the country. Her short fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry has appeared in literary journals such as Crab Orchard Review, Painted Bride Quarterly, Blue Earth Review, Eclectica, and YOU: An Anthology of Essays Devoted to the Second Person (Welcome Table Press, 2013). Her critical work was included in Critical Insights: Harlem Renaissance (Salem Press, 2015). Her work is represented by Kimberly Cameron & Associates.
