Professor Nelles came to UMass Dartmouth in 1995 and has taught more than 30 different courses for the English Department. Among other administrative duties, he has served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Director of UMD Honors programs, Director of the MAT program in English, Director of the Liberal Arts program, and Director of the Spotlight Program for high school students.
In addition to his service at UMass Dartmouth, Professor Nelles serves on the Editorial Boards of Interdisciplinary Literary Studies and Style, and as an Editorial Consultant for American Literary Realism, Poetics Today, and the Ohio State University Press. He has published 127 books and articles on a wide range of topics, including medieval Arthurian manuscripts, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and Buddy Guy.
