English Department Programs
Our department has many exciting options, whether you are selecting a major, considering a minor, pursuing a graduate degree, or improving your writing and communication skills while earning a graduate certificate in professional writing.
Undergraduate English
When you become either an undergraduate English major or undergraduate English minor, you can focus your degree based on your interests. We will have three distinct courses of study from which to choose.
Undergraduate Major and Minor Areas of Study

- Writing, Communications, and Rhetoric
- Drama, Film, and Media Studies
Our department also provides a Freshman program that includes
- introductory composition courses (ENL 100, 101, 102)
- testing and evaluation of the writing ability of incoming students
- English-as-a-second-language instruction
- professional communications courses for students in business, technology, engineering, and computer science programs
Graduate English
When you start your course of study in our Graduate Program in Professional Writing, you will have a diverse selection of courses from which to choose. And you will have the opportunity to focus on a particular subject area, such as screen writing, or to select courses from numerous areas for a more well-rounded degree.

Professional Writing Certificate Program

Start down the certificate fast track, and you'll be quick to develop new professional writing skills — even as you take courses that put a special emphasis on practical work tailored to your work setting, situation, and community.
