Dr. Giulio Massano is Chancellor Professor of Spanish, Italian and Latin at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He was previously Chairperson of the Department of Foreign Literature and Languages.
He received his Ph.D and M.A.in Spanish and Comparative Literaure at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C, his B.A. in Torino, Italy, and attended several Graduate courses at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. Dr. Massano speaks speaks several languages.
Dr. Massano has taught for thirthy two years at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth all level of Spanish courses, from elementary language courses to Graduate level. He also taught several upper level courses in Italian and Latin.
His research is focused on the Spanish literature of the Sixtenth and Seventeenth Century, especially the Picaresque Novel. He has publishe a book on the subject and presented several papers at national and international conferences.
He also authored an “assessment of Basic Sklls “ for bilingual students.
Dr Massano is also teaching many mini-courses of Italian to the communities surrounding the University. He is involved in cultural activities that take students and members of the community to artistic events lik Opera and classical Cinema.
Dr. Massano is a member of many academic organizarions..
Dr. Massano is an avid soccer fan and has played the game for many years. His Italian classes always play a soccer game at the end of the academic year.
