Short Biography of Dr. Robert Ashley MICHAEL
One of the 1997 recipients of the American Historical Association's James Harvey Robinson Prize for the "most outstanding contribution to the teaching and learning of history," Dr. Robert Michael is Professor Emeritus of European History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he has taught the Holocaust for nearly thirty years. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston University in Philosophy, he has published poetry and more than 50 articles and eleven books on the Holocaust and the History of Antisemitism. His play concerning the Holocaust, THE PRESENCE, is to be produced in the fall.
Professor Michael has also taught at Central European University in Budapest, Inter-American University in Puerto Rico, and given lectures at the University of Vienna and at the Ateneo Veneto and University of Venice. He was a founder and co-editor of the scholarly email list H-ANTISEMITISM and formerly editor of H-HOLOCAUST and H-W-CIV. He offered the world's first distance-education course on the Holocaust in 1994 and this year has been invited to teach the same at American Military University.
