Philosophy Concentration (PHL)

As the foundation of the humanities, Philosophy offers students the opportunity to cultivate their analytical skills and clarity of thought. Philosophy aims to help students develop a successful career and a meaningful life.

LAR majors concentrating in Philosophy will develop their abilities to think and write critically, as well as communicate effectively in various formats such as analysis, argument, and exposition.

Philosophy Curriculum

  • PHL 101: Introduction to Philosophy
  • One 200-level elective
  • Three 300- or 400- level electives

Note: Many concentration courses have pre-requisite courses. It is the student’s responsibility to complete these courses. It is strongly recommended that you take courses in the listed sequence.

Online programs and courses are offered by the Departments and Colleges of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth through UMass Dartmouth University Extension.
