Students in Policy Studies are expected to work closely with a Faculty Advisor, who will be assigned to that student to work with them for the duration of their academic career. Students are required to consult with their advisor each semester to identify required courses and to insure their timely and sequential progress through the minor. The advisor will also help students identify courses in cognate departments that support and strengthen the individual student's interest in a substantive policy area, (e.g., public management, economic development, social policy, criminal justice policy). Students who wish to learn more about the Department of Policy Studies should contact Dr. Al Bavon, Chairperson of the Department of Policy Studies.
The Department of Policy Studies is located on the far eastern edge of the Dartmouth campus at 128 Chase Road in what was once the university President's official residence. It is within easy walking distance from Ring Road and the residence halls. There is ample parking for students visiting with faculty or attending seminars in the Program's comfortable facility. The Department's facility has a spacious front and back yard, where students can study or visit in a quiet wooded environment. The Department has a "open door policy" that welcomes students on a drop-in basis and without appointments.
