Fun Stuff
What do I do for fun?
My biggest hobbies are aerobic sports including triathlon, road running, cycling, kayaking, nordic skiing, etc. (as if chasing two young boys around is not enough exercise).
Here are pictures of me racing in the Buzzards Bay Triathlon in 2007.

My other major interest is music. I'm always interested in new bands--current favorites include Deerhoof, Rilo Kiley and Modest Mouse. I play the guitar, too, and while current jam sessions usually involve rounds of Old McDonald or Polly Wolly Doodle, I used to actually play rock and roll...with amplifiers...and other adults. Here are some recordings from various bands.
Thursday at Home by Woodshed-- Of all the various bands in which I've played, Woodshed's music was probably closest to my own tastes. Our set was actually sort of a rock opera (or rock novel). I played lead guitar on this track, which is a reflection on the death of the main character's father. Ironically, we were all in this band mainly to have a good time and hang out together, but we actually saw some success before band members moved out of town, and even played at the House of Blues in Chicago.
If Lips Could Kill by Kim Katz and the Last Uncle-- Last Uncle was a revolving trio that backed up Kim Katz, who, among other things, had deep enough pockets to finance some recording time in a big time Chicago studio. This track is from the resulting CD, Odd Man Out. I performed the guitar tracks. We played some fun gigs, including one at the Metro in Chicago, and even got on the radio occassionally, including a live performance on the big alterna-station.
Believe in Yourself by Initial Reaction-- OK, I had to include this recording because, well, it's kind of funny. This was my bona fide punk band from my high school days. I played bass in this band and, yes, I had a mohawk.
Down in the Tarpit by me-- So, I've now given up playing rock, I guess. I got some home recording software and started writing and recording kids' music. Here's a song about dinosaurs, my sons' favorite topic.
