Professor Berggren's research and teaching interests include the cohousing movement, work-family policy, social policy, gender and politics, and gender-role attitudes. She has published her work in journals such as Political Research Quarterly, International Journal of Social Welfare, Journal of the Association for Research on Mothering, and Review of Policy Research. She has received several internal and external grants for one of her current projects examining the relationships among the American cohousing movement, work-family balance and political behavior. Her 2011 article "Problem-Based Learning and Improving Learning Outcomes in 'The Politics of Welfare Reform'" appeared in the Journal of Political Science Education. Her article “Cohousing as Civic Society: Cohousing Involvement and Political Participation,” is forthcoming in Social Science Quarterly.
