Like the Washington Center program, the Institute on Business & Government Affairs also offers a summer academic internship program in DC. This program partners with Georgetown University. Students take a 3-credit course at Georgetown that will transfer to UMass Dartmout as upper-level PSC credit and complete an internship worth 6 credits of PSC 305. Click here for more information.

The New Bedford Mayor's Office needs an intern in its Policy & Intergovernmental Relations department. The intern would help with research and work being done by the Mayor's Sustainability Task Force. The schedule would be flexible with preference for afternoons/occasional evening meetings. Internships are available at PHENOM, the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts. Interns will work closely with a wide variety of student organizations, staff and faculty unions and organizations, community groups, and other stakeholders to develop PHENOM’s breadth and power in pursing a fully-funded, affordable, accessible, fully-staffed and democratic system of public higher education that serves all the residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. George Washington University has a Semester in Washington program that focuses on political campaigns, legislative politics and political communication. The political science dept greatly supports international internship opportunities as a vehicle for expanding our graduates’ global connections. Students taking part in summer or semester-long study away programs are especially encouraged to pursue a foreign internship, of which there are virtually thousands. There is an outstanding internship program run by the Washington Center. Interns go to DC to complete an internship, a related program and a course. Summer interns earn 9 credits (6 for PSC 305 and 3 for a transfer course) while semester interns earn 15 (12 for PSC 305 and 3 for a transfer course). Many UMD students have participated. The Massachusetts Republican Party is seeking college students to take part in an internship program. Interns will work closely with political strategists on a variety of tasks and projects. Students may also work with the finance/fundraising team or the communications team. The Washington Internship Institute offers a comprehensive program for completing an internship in Washington DC. They have two programs: Capital Experience, and Embassy and Diplomatic Scholars.
