  • PSC 101 Introduction to American Politics
  • PSC 151 Introduction to Comparative Politics
  • PSC 161 Introduction to International Relations
  • MTH 104 Introduction to Statistics* 
  • PSC 2__ Political Science Elective (200-Level)
  • ECO 232 Macroeconomics

  • PSC 349 Political Science Research Methods (recommended Sophomore year, prerequisite for PSC4__ Seminars)
  • PSC 305 Internship (recommended Senior year)

  • PSC 3__ American politics/public policy course (300-level)
  • PSC 3__ Comparative/international relations course (300-level)
  • PSC 3__ Political theory course (300-level)

  • PSC 3__ or 4__ Political Science Elective (300 or 400-level)
  • PSC 3__ or 4__ Political Science Elective (300 or 400-level)

  • PSC 4__ Research Seminar (prerequisite PSC 349 Research Methods)
  • PSC 4__ Research Seminar (prerequisite PSC 349 Research Methods)

    TOTAL COURSE CREDITS REQUIRED FOR THE MAJOR = 42

    No more than three (3) credits from the internship can be applied toward the major requirements; any additional credits will count as general electives. Credit from Independent and Directed Study options will be limited to a maximum of six (6) credits toward the degree.

    Department majors are also required to take one course in non-Western politics, culture, or history (i.e. Chinese Politics, Islamic History, African Art, etc.) as part of their studies.

    *Gen Ed requirements dictate that all UMD students take a MTH course at the 101 level or higher.  PSC majors are urged to take MTH 104 (rather than MTH 101) to fulfill their math requirement.
