SMAST
The
School for Marine Science and Technology is the marine campus of
the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. It is located in New Bedford, America's
premier fishing port. Scientists at the School for Marine Science and Technology
(SMAST) have expertise in ocean modeling and monitoring, fisheries science and
management, coastal systems science, ocean acoustics, biogeochemistry, remote
sensing, and ocean engineering. Research is supported by the School's two-story,
32,000-square-foot building and docking facilities on Clark's Cove which provide
access to Buzzards Bay. The adjacent former Naval Reserve Training Center building
is being added to the School's facilities, and a new Massachusetts Institute
for Marine Fisheries building will soon house joint DMF/SMAST research.

The Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the South Coast Research and Technology Park, near the intersection of Routes 195 and 24 in Fall River, within a 60,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art technology facility. The goal of the ATMC is to provide advanced technology and manufacturing solutions, through industry and university partnerships, to meet current and future business needs. |
The Star Store
| Opened in the fall of 2001, The Star Store houses part of the College of Visual and Performing Arts. "Establishing the university's premiere art program in the heart of New Bedford's cultural center is absolutely ideal for UMass Dartmouth as well as for the city," noted Chancellor Jean MacCormack at the building's opening. "What better way to give our students, New Bedford residents, and the growing number of visitors to the city the full flavor of the creative energy that is what the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is all about." The Star Store was recently recognized with The Boston Society of Architects' Citation Award in Higher Education Facilities Design and The AIA/SCUP Excellence in Planning Award for outstanding design. | ![]() |
The New Bedford Center for Professional and Continuing Education

The New Bedford Center for Professional and Continuing Education is an outreach facility of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Division of Professional & Continuing Education, which serves as the community's outreach and recruitment resource for Life-Long Learning. The Center serves the community through outreach and recruitment for adult and youth educational programs, job training and skills development opportunities. The facility, located in a central city location and accessible by public transportation, is an environmentally friendly atmosphere for all students, is responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities, and is a caring learning environment. |
UMass Dartmouth Fall River Professional and Continuing Education
Center
| Located in the Old Cherry and Webb building on South Main Street in Fall River, the UMass Dartmouth Fall River Professional and Continuing Education Center hosts graduate classes in Business Administration, Teaching, and Nursing, and various undergraduate classes including Psychology, Sociology, Humanities/Social Studies, Accounting, Human Resource Development, Operations Management, and Multidisciplinary Studies.
