Library Services

Knowing about the many library services will help you with class planning. The UMass Dartmouth Library Web site's homepage is located at:  http://www.lib.umassd.edu/.

There, you can find information about library services and holdings, as well as the electronic resources (eResources) that many faculty use for their classes.  In particular, you may well be interested in the Course Reserves (print and electronic) services that the library provides.  To learn more about the course reserve system, go to:  http://eres.lib.umassd.edu/The site should answer most, if not all, of your questions.  Please feel free to contact the NFI listserv with questions as well, and we will respond there, since others may have similar questions.

Liaison Librarians: Most academic areas at UMass Dartmouth have the services of a reference librarian specializing in the disciplines within that area.

Note:  It is important to keep in mind copyright laws.  Fair use allows you to place a reading on reserve for a class one time.  Then, you must secure the copyright permission to re-use the reading.  It’s useful if you explore our electronic databases for readings.  If you can locate the readings you would like to use in our electronic databases, the library can set up a proxy link to the database for your students.  Since we own the database, the copyright issues are resolved.  To access a list of the online databases with fulltext that we own, take some time to explore the following link:  http://www.lib.umassd.edu/REFERENCE/eresources.shtml.
