The Division of Polling and Program Evaluation specializes in public opinion polling and in both quantitative and qualitative forms of program evaluation. It works with a wide variety of public and private organizations, including departments and agencies of state and municipal government, non-profit organizations, housing authorities, schools, media outlets, and trade associations.  

Below is a list of projects with brief descriptions conducted by the Center for Policy Analysis on behalf of various groups and agencies.

A Comparative Performance Index was designed and copyrighted by Senior Research Associates at the Center for Policy Analysis to provide a summary comparison of the schools' performance relative to comparable schools in Massachusetts. A Progress Report also highlights educational reform initiatives being implemented by the School Department to address identified problem areas.

New Bedford Drug Court:  A Program Evaluation, 2000-2003

Project Description: The New Bedford Drug Court is targeting 300 adult non-violent misdemeanor and felony substance-abusing offenders over a three-year period.  Participants are expected to engage in the program for a minimum of 12 months.  The program will provide early, continuous and intensive judicially supervised treatment, mandatory drug testing, graduated sanctions, aftercare and other rehabilitative services such as education, medical resources, housing, transportation and job training.  The Center for Policy Analysis is conducting an evaluation of the program to monitor its effectivness.

Greater New Bedford School to Career Local Partnership: Final Close-Out  Report

Project Description: The Center for Policy Analysis provided staff support to the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board's School to Work program by preparing the final close out report and evaluation of a three-year state grant.  The grant supported teacher "externships" and  mentor programs to assist teachers integrate school with careeor opportunities.  The close-out report and evaluation includes a brief summary of school to work activities in each school district funded by the Greater New Bedford WIB, an equipment inventory, and a general narrative of program highlights.

Portuguese Language Instruction in Massachusetts Public Schools, Colleges, and Universities: A Survey

The North American Free Trade Agreement & Academic Mobility in USA: Non-Tariff Barriers to Effective Implementation

Project Description: The report examines several indicators of academic mobility between Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The analysis documents that academic mobility between the United States and its NAFTA partners is quite limited and concludes that an increase in academic mobility is likely to lag cross-border economic activity. The main obstacles to the free movement of professional services in higher education do not involve tariff or non-tariff barriers and, consequently, NAFTA does not directly address the types of restrictions that obstruct greater academic mobility.
