Welcome to the Charlton College of Business at UMass-Dartmouth. Named for retail giant Earle P. Charlton, the business school embodies his focus on quality, ethical principles, and a driving entrepreneurial spirit. The Charlton faculty represent the highest measure of this quality in their scholarship, teaching, and service. In business education around the world, the “Gold Standard” of internationally recognized excellence is accreditation by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Fewer than 30% of the business programs in the United States have achieved this distinguished accreditation. Charlton is a proud member of this prestigious group and the only business program in southern Massachusetts whose faculty wear the badge of the AACSB gold standard.
The Charlton College is committed to serving the needs of the business community in southern Massachusetts and the state, while creating opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and succeed. To sustain the strength of our undergraduate and graduate programs, our faculty begin with the powerful academic credentials reflected in their AACSB accreditation. This foundation lets the faculty provide graduates of Charlton who can make an immediate contribution to their work organization, but equally important, graduates who have the creative, analytical ability to help businesses and organizations meet the unknown challenges of the future.
Housed in a modern building created in 2004 with a gift from the Charlton Family Trust, the Charlton College of Business provides a full range of undergraduate business degrees, MBA programs, and a select offering of professional, post-graduate certificate programs. In addition, the Charlton College is home to an impressive array of research institutes in innovation, marketing, and technology and manufacturing. All of these research and educational offerings have been greatly enhanced by the construction of a new, $14.5 million Learning Pavilion, which opened September 2015 as an expansion of the Charlton College building. This Pavilion project was initiated by a generous, new $3 million gift from the Charlton Family Trust.
With new facilities, regional and international recognition for quality, and an entrepreneurial spirit, the faculty, staff, and students in the Charlton College of Business are moving into a very exciting future in business education.
