PETER HOSTAK - Ph.D (Northwestern University)
Peter Hostak joined UMass Dartmouth straight from the Ph.D. program at Northwestern University. His dissertation examines the impact of credit risk measures defined in the performance pricing debt contracts on the reporting behavior of firms. His current research analyzes why firms pay special dividends and whether retreating of ADR firms from the US stock exchanges indicate that the US capital market became less attractive after the enactment of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. His research interests also include other issues in empirical accounting research, including economic consequences of discretionary accounting choices; financial reporting and disclosure; and security analysis and valuation.
Professor Hostak is originally from Drietoma, Slovakia. Before arriving at UMass Dartmouth, Professor Hostak completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University, where he served as a teaching assistant and part time visiting lecturer. His undergraduate and MBA studies were at City University Trencin. He worked as a credit analyst in Citibank Slovakia before coming to the United States.
