ERCAN TIRTIROGLU - Ph.D. (Union College and University, NY)

Dr. Ercan Tirtiroglu is a Professor of Decision Sciences and Operations Management at Charlton College of Business. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in the areas of Quantitative Business Analysis, Operations Management, Decision Analysis, and Quality.

Professor Tirtiroglu earned a B.Sc. degree in Management (Quantitative Methods) from Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey), an M.A. in Management (Marketing) from Bosphorus University (Istanbul, Turkey), an M.S. in Operations Research as well as a Ph.D. in Administrative and Engineering Systems from Union College & University, Schenectady, NY. He has held faculty positions at State University of New York at Albany, State University of New York at New Paltz, and at St. John Fisher College, Rochester, NY. Additionally, Dr. Tirtiroglu has been a visiting professor at Bosphorus University, and also at Concordia University (Montreal) during his two sabbatical leaves from UMass Dartmouth. While at Concordia during Academic Year 2002-03, Professor Tirtiroglu completed four courses in Finance and experienced being a student again, while teaching Research Methods and Operations Management courses. His professional experience also includes consulting in productivity and (statistical) quality control, as well as in marketing research (particularly in data gathering, data quality and sales forecasting aspects).

Dr. Tirtiroglu is a member of DSI (Decision Sciences Institute), INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences), ASQ (American Society for Quality), and BCASA (American Statistical Association-Boston Chapter), and maintains affliations with the Decision Analysis, Applied Probability, Marketing Science, and Statistical Quality special interest groups and/or divisions of INFORMS and ASQ. He has written numerous journal and proceedings papers on various areas of interest to him, including operations management, quality, finance, and information-theory. His information-theoretic work focuses on the applications of entropy in operations research, especially in the context of decision/game theory. Dr. Tirtiroglu serves on the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Educators On Line, and International Journal of Operational Research. He is also a reviewer for several academic journals.
