UMASS DARTMOUTH SIFE STUDENTS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA

Dartmouth, Massachusetts, September 2, 2005 – The UMASS Dartmouth SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise)  team is collecting children’s books, playing cards and board games to send to the victims of hurricane Katrina.  Although the immediate needs of the victims are food, shelter and safety, this project will give the children something to do to constructively fill their time.  Reading and playing will also help them begin the process of healing, to continue their education, and to provide a sense of hope for the future.  The books, cards, and games can be dropped off at the UMass Dartmouth Charlton College of Business or at other locations on campus.   Please no cash donations.  Cash donations should be sent to other relief agencies such as the American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org/donate/donatemail.html) which are better equipped to handle cash donations.

For more information, contact Ms. Deirdre Carmichael, UMass Dartmouth SIFE at u_dcarmichae@umassd.edu or  Dr. Godwin Ariguzo, UMass Dartmouth SIFE advisor at gariguzo@umassd.edu.
