Overview of the Finance Major
Financial decisions are the core of the most important decisions that a business enterprise makes, which determines the success and economic viability of a firm, whether a corporation, a multinational company, a limited partnership or privately owned enterprise. The finance curriculum at UMD prepares our graduates in the theory and practice of modern financial management so that they will be able to compete effectively in the global market place. Our students learn skills in various areas of finance such as financial management of domestic and multinational corporations, global financial markets, investment and commercial banking, investment in securities and building investment portfolios with a view to manage money effectively, and risk management of investments. Throughout the program, the emphasis is on the use of technology and changing financial markets. Specialized courses include: corporate finance, investment analysis, financial institutions management, risk management, and international finance. Our faculty is highly qualified and student centered.
