Overview of the Marketing Major
Marketing managers develop the firm's marketing strategy in detail and estimate the demand for products and services offered by the firm and its competitors. In addition, they identify potential markets and develop pricing strategies. In collaboration with others, they monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services, and they oversee product development. Marketing courses at UMD are oriented toward problem-solving and management decision-making. There are also opportunities for students to gain actual work experience through the International Business Association, which sponsor student-run trade missions to various overseas locations and a special market research program in which students conduct marketing research projects and surveys for area business and organizations
