Post Masters Certificates
Admissions
Admission to the Post Masters Certificate (PMC) programs in the Charlton College of Business at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth are on a rolling basis and accepted during the Fall, Spring, or Summer terms. A Masters degree from an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Completed applications along with a resume, essay explaining interests in PMC program and experience to date, and official transcripts from the applicants undergraduate and masters schools must be sent to the University’s Graduate Admissions office. The GMAT test is not required for admission to PMC programs.

The Charlton College of Business offers Post Masters Certificates in six areas, listed below. Each program requires the completion of 15 credits (5 classes) beyond one’s Masters Degree. E-Commerce
Scope
The dramatic advancement in Internet and other mobile technologies since early 1990s has driven firms to realize the necessity of using the Internet to collaborate with customers, suppliers, partners, and other stake¬holders. Further, as knowledge of e-commerce systems are accu¬mulating and exploding over time, top executives are becoming more proficient and confident in lead¬ing Internet-based initiatives. However, top management initiatives must be implemented by mid-level information systems and business managers who need a solid under¬standing of the associated techni¬cal and managerial issues in applying the most recent technologies to create, operate, and main¬tain E-Commerce capabilities. This is particularly challenging for mid-level managers in small and mid-size companies who lack the opportu¬nity to obtain the ne¬ces¬sary training internally. With this need in mind, the Department of Deci¬sion and Information Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is offering the Post-Masters Certificate Program in E-Commerce.
Description
The E-Commerce Post-Masters Certificate Program focuses on both technical and managerial issues in E-Commerce. Topics such as the production, marketing, and distribution of digital in¬formation pro¬ducts and current and emerging electronic commerce technologies using the Inter¬net will be covered. The program has three required courses and two elective courses. The three required courses give stu¬dents a theoretical foundation in understanding information technology and related managerial issues in general, and emer¬ging Internet technologies and related E-Commerce strategy and management issues in particular. The two electives can be chosen from Business Process Design, E-Commerce/In¬ternet Mar¬keting, and Special Topics on MIS, giving flexibility in customizing courses to meet stu¬dent needs. Lectures, case studies, group projects, presentations, field studies, and class discussions are all used in the teaching process.

Finance
Scope
Recent innovative developments in the financial markets and related institutions have revolutionized the field and practice of finance for the corporate financial manager as well as the entrepreneur. These developments have transformed major financial sectors of the national economy into players in the international economy. In response to globalization, the financial manager must consider a wide choice of financial derivatives that permit the management of current and future risk. There are also new and complex alternatives for raising funds in the capital markets ranging from putable and convertible bonds to various forms of hybrid preferred and common stock. In addition, portfolio managers have the opportunity and obligation to use modern sophisticated models to achieve the investment goals set by their clients. In response to the need for specialized education for professionals with significant responsibilities in financial management, the Department of Accounting and Finance will offer a Post-Masters Certificate in Financial Management. The focus of the course of study is to provide managers with the skills necessary to deal with key financial issues that include risk management, portfolio selection, capital budgeting, and raising funds in the capital market within the context of a network of global financial institutions.
Description
The PMC in Financial Management requires the completion of five graduate courses (15 credits) that cover in depth current theory and practice in the field. The initial core course provides an overview of the major areas of finance and introduces the fundamental models of analysis. This course is preparation for the following course of study in financial institutions, financial markets, investments, the use of derivatives such as options and futures and international financial management. The underlying philosophy in the program is the need for risk management whenever a financial decision is made.

General Management
Scope
The Post Masters Certificate in General Management is intended for an individual with a non-business graduate degree who desires to gain a basic overall understanding of general business. The program is designed to cover the basic framework of the major functional areas within the field of business. Upon completion, the student will have an overall concept of common business and corporate practices.
Description
The program consists of a 15 credit hour course of study divided into 5 CORE classes. The courses are all taught by the same faculty that teach in the MBA program. In order to be awarded the certificate (PMC), a student must finish with a final grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Scope
Leadership has been described as the incremental improvement in employee motivation and performance over and above what managers typically achieve. This suggests that leadership is first and foremost about positively influencing people to fully develop and use their capabilities – leading people to lead themselves. Whether in business, non-profits, or government and whether in accounting, marketing, or general management, excellent leaders are those who have 1) a thorough understanding of the context in which they operate; 2) a strong awareness of their own value-systems, capabilities, and biases; and 3) a keen appreciation of how the motivation and development of others affects the success of their organization. Thus, the Charlton College of Business Post-Masters degree in Leadership is designed for professionals with advanced degrees who wish to prepare to lead, motivate, and empower others in diverse, multicultural environments.
Description
The program guides students through exploration of their own assumptions, values, and beliefs about self and others to the development and practice of skills, behaviors and beliefs of successful leaders in a variety of settings. The learning process is exploratory, peer-facilitated, and highly engaging. Attention is given to current theories on human motivation, social perception, and change, but the focus is on self-development.

Shifting competition, globalization, and E-Commerce have changed the way firms develop strategies both in consumer and business-to-business (B2B) markets. For example, integration of E-Commerce has made marketing of products a 24 hour 7 day per week endeavor worldwide. In an attempt to address the challenges and changes in the business environment, Charlton College of Business will offer a Post-Master’s Certificate program in marketing. The program will emphasize understanding of marketing trends, as well as the effect of domestic and global competitive environments on Southeastern Massachusetts business. With this in mind, the Post-Masters Certificate program in Marketing is designed for professionals holding advanced degrees wishing to improve and update their knowledge of marketing in business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

Supply Chain Management
Scope
Intense competition, heightened customers needs, and the introduction of products and services with shorter life cycles, have forced business enterprises to undergo a transformation from low-cost high-volume producers to responsive and adaptive organizations capable of better delivering customer needs. These transformations towards agility, flexibility, and customization are taking place in both the manufacturing and service sectors including the retail, transportation, and health care sectors among others. These trends are further accelerated by the introduction of information technology infrastructures that provide automation, coordination, information sharing, accessibility, and responsiveness throughout the value supply chain facilitating the flow of materials and information. To address the challenges facing organizations in this new business climate, the Department of Decision & Information Sciences will offer a Post-Masters Certificate program in Supply Chain Management that emphasizes understanding of both the global supply chain business environment as well as the diversity and the changing workplace culture of the business industry of Southeastern Massachusetts.

The program focuses on strategies, tactics and operations of purchasing, logistics, and supply chain management, and the role of information technology in supply chain and business process design. Due attention is given to the tasks performed by purchasing, logistics and supply chain personnel responsible for sourcing and managing the flow of materials into, through, and out of the firm.
