Why Select a Minor?

By adding a minor, students can broaden career opportunities and explore areas of future interest. A minor course of study can supplement and complement a business student’s major; or can be an area of personal interest to the student. Non-business students may become more prepared and marketable in a particular career path.

Admission to the Minor

Application for admission should be made to the Minor Coordinator. Admission to any of the minors is on a competitive basis. For both business and non-business students admission to a minor requires completion of 54 credits, an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher, and good academic standing in one’s major.

Minor Requirements

Business minors require the completion of 21 or 24 credit hours (depending on the minor), consisting of 12 credits in foundation courses and the remainder in the specified subject area of the minor. The international minor is a special case where, in addition to 21 credits of foundation and elective courses, students are required to demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language and complete an experiential requirement.

The minor will be awarded with the diploma, providing that the student has at least a 2.5 GPA in the minor course requirements. All prerequisites to foundation and required courses apply.

Foundation courses in all business minors:

  • ECO 231 Principles of Microeconomics
  • ACT 211 Principles of Accounting I
  • MKT 311 Principles of Marketing
  • MGT 311 Organizational Behavior
