Computing and Information Technology Services

CITS IT Internship Program

Since 2003, CITS has collaborated with UMass Dartmouth’s Upward Bound Program to administer an Information Technology (IT) Internship program for disadvantaged students expressing an interest in the computing field. Selected Upward Bound students spend a portion of their summer program working closely with Computing and Information Technology Services (CITS) IT professionals and student IT Assistants to learn about CITS campus support techniques, policies and procedures.

In addition to basic employment skills, interns are exposed to IT topics such as hardware usage techniques, software application utilization and general computing troubleshooting skills. Interns submit weekly progress e-mails describing their experience with CITS. Upon completion of the six-week program, interns receive a modest stipend.

IT Interns who excel during this experience are hired as student IT Assistants as early as their freshman year at UMass Dartmouth. IT Assistants provide front-line technical support to students utilizing the various CITS IT Learning Spaces.
