CITS NEWS, SPRING 2004
As part of the 2004 Classroom Initiative, we renovated 2 classrooms: Auditorium Room 006 with technology and Auditorium Room 007 without technology. The objective is to establish standards for the classroom environment, classroom technology, and an instructor toolset. Both rooms have new flooring, tables, chairs, white boards, clocks, and improved lighting and ceiling panels. The technology classroom also has a projector, document camera, network connections (including wireless in both rooms), phone and VCR
Each faculty member who will use the technology in 006 will receive a laptop with a DVD (internal or external) that will easily connect to the projection in the room. A Classroom Advisory Council, composed of staff from the Library, CITS, Facilities, Security, Fiscal Services, Registrar, DCE, Campus Center, students and faculty, is focusing on implementing the standards as we move forward renovating classrooms over the summer months. If you have a few minutes, please take a walk and look at the new rooms, located in the basement of the Auditorium. Please send your comments and suggestions to Donna Massano, Assistant Vice Chancellor for CITS (Computing and Information Technology) at dmassano@umassd.edu.
Peggy Dias represented CITS in the production of a CD of the Freshman Year Experience. This initiative is expected to inform and encourage new students in their effort to make a successful transition into the University community. You can read Peggy's message here.
Provost Esposito asked that CITS be seated at the Academic Council. In February, Donna Massano, Assistant Vice Chancellor, began attending the Academic Council's monthly meetings.
