Director of IT Development
Director of IT Infrastructure
Internet Development Manager/Systems
Instructional Development Team
This semester, Dion 109 opens as the IT Faculty/Staff Development and Training Center. The Instructional Development Team is now based in this room. Team members include Bev Johnson, Rich Legault (half-time) Susan Jennings, Jen Riley (English Department faculty member), and Magali Carrera. Team member Butch Banis will be taking a leave of absence until August. He will be working with the U.S. government supporting humanitarian efforts.
IT Service Center Team
IT Service Center staff members are in the midst of Spring 2004 implementation of HEAT, a newly installed electronic help desk system. The HEAT system will allow the IT Service Center staff to electronically record incoming inquiries, maintain a knowledge base for commonly asked questions, as well as track response times to our customers. The Service Center looks forward to offering improved service to all of our UMass Dartmouth customers.
IT Week
The Division of Library Services and Information Resources and Technology (LSIRT) will celebrate Informational Technology Week, March 29 through April 2. More details about this week will be available soon.
December, 2003
Two CITS staff members, Diane Mahan and Sue Yerid, are expected to retire at the end of the month. Sue and Diane will be missed, as they each contributed to technology at UMD in specific and meaningful ways.
These changes make us look to our ongoing reorganization. In an effort to focus and enhance the CITS Lab management, Brad Souza will move his office to the Lab and Classroom Team located in the Library lower level. Kathy Bancroft and Brad Souza will expand their technical as well as current scheduling and student supervisory duties to include all CITS labs and classrooms.
With an emphasis on CITS student employment, Adam Jones will administer and have general oversight for the CITS Student Employment Initiative. This initiative is under development for deployment next fall. We will present more details about the CITS Student Employment Initiative to CITS in January. This initiative will reside with the IT Service Center Team, and Adam will join the IT Service Center in January. At that time, Esther Gonzalez will join the IT Lab and Classroom Team and will work with Tim O'Neil for the technical support of the IT labs and classrooms.
Aggie Figueira of the Operations and Access Team will move from the Operations Center to the CITS offices located on the Library 3rd floor. Working as Sue Yerid's replacement, Aggie will provide the access services and support to our IT customers.
Dion 109's use will change. Recognizing the need to provide to faculty/staff a walk-in environment for instruction especially for on-line course development using IntraLearn, we decided to redeploy Dion 109. The Instructional Development Team will begin to use Dion 109 in this capacity in January. In late October, the Team made a presentation to the Chancellor and Provost on IntraLearn at UMD. The presentation was very well received.
At the November 17 Plenary Meeting of the College of Arts and Sciences, CITS, together with the Library staff members, offered at presentation on "Wireless at UMD." There was much enthusiasm from those who attended.
