Responsible Use of Information Technology: Procedures

2. Procedures for Implementing the Policies at UMD

a. Orientation -Informative

i. Handout of "Computing at UMass Dartmouth: What You Need to Know"

b. Students Connecting to Network from the Residence Halls

i. Prior to connecting to the Campus Network, students must register online using email password
ii. Prior to clicking submit, the student must read a copy of the Responsible/Acceptable Use of Computing Services
iii. A student is now registered on the campus network and can use its services

c. Email Accounts

i. At the beginning of each academic year, all individuals with email accounts receive a link to Responsible/Acceptable Use of Computing Services

d. Student Violations in Residence Halls

i. Complaint is placed
ii. All access is stopped and port is disabled
iii. A formal complaint to Student Judicial by CITS

• The Housing RD is responsible for scheduling the judicial hearing.
• If student is found responsible for the violation, he/she is fined $50.00.
• Must bring computer and form with file sharing applications to the Residential Network Operations Center (ResNOC) to have all file sharing applications removed.
• Judicial Affairs may apply other sanctions such as community service.
• When the process is complete, Judicial Affairs requests that CITS reactivate the port.

e. EMail Violations

i. Complaint is placed
ii. Request is made to sender to stop sending such email messages
iii. Email account is closed
iv. Proper authorities are notified as appropriate to the severity of the violation

f. Wireless Violations

i. Complaint is placed
ii. All access is stopped and VPN account is disabled
iii. A formal complaint to Student Judicial by CITS
