Service Mission

To serve the University community by developing, maintaining and promoting the University web site, UMass Dartmouth's communications hub.

Web site management

  • Maintain the UMass Dartmouth web site. Perform periodic review and updates of the UMassD site, especially top-level areas. Perform content sweeps and evaluations to keep the UMassD web site current.
  • Manage UMassD Web: direct development for most sites/pages, with a focus on upper-level (top three levels) web sites/pages.
  • Create, design, develop, implement, and revise new and/or existing sites.
  • Consult, implement, and test web accessibility and usability. Maintain knowledge of disability access for the web and plan with accessibility in mind.
  • Design, develop, and support related university web projects.
  • Develop web applications.
  • Create and maintain web forms.
  • Supervise student web developers on relevant projects.

Training and support

  • Advise customers on how to create a web site: training, assistance, assessment.
  • Provide web technology training.
  • Provide training, access, assistance, and updates for faculty web sites.
  • Provide technical support and training for web applications.
  • Provide training and support for the content management system, OmniUpdate.
  • Consult with users concerning web best practices: web code standards, web design/ layout standards, accessibility requirements and standards, usability best practices, and more.
  • Provide class web project assistance, as appropriate.
  • Respond to user questions and problems, as appropriate.

Content

  • Partner with university departments/offices for content.
  • Provide written content for the site, as appropriate. Provide editorial support (proofing, etc.) for other web developers as needed. Write/edit reports, documentation, etc., as necessary, in both online and printed formats.
  • Compose, edit, review, and revise content for campus information resources (for example, web calendar and press release tools).
  • Manage content of CITS site and related CITS projects, whether online or in print.

Graphics and video

  • Capture and edit images.
  • Provide graphic design and animation.
  • Capture, edit and deliver videos.
  • Provide digitization, compression, rendering, and formatting of raw video for web presentation.
  • Maintain video streaming server, monthly.

Research/testing

  • Test, recommend, and implement new web, Internet and communication technologies.
