Voicemail information
You can access your voicemail, the Audix system, from any phone either on or off campus. When on campus, dial x5001, from off campus dial 508.910.5001. (Please note that this is a 910 and not a 999 number).
Each extension on campus has a header name and voicemail greeting associated with it and you must set these up for your extension. Your header name is the name that will be heard by anyone who reaches your voice mailbox or anyone who receives a voicemail message from you.
Setting your password
Each student’s default voicemail password is 2244; however you will be prompted to change this when you log in for the first time.
Connect to Audix by dialing x5001 or 508.910.5001 if you are off campus, when prompted, enter your phone extension and default password then you will be prompted to enter a new password. This password must be between 5 and 15 numbers in length. Once you have entered your new password, press the # key to confirm.
Creating a new password
Connect to Audix by dialing x5001 or 508.910.5001 if you are off campus. Then:
- Press 5 to review a list of options
- Press 4 to change your password
- Select a password that is between 5 and 15 digits followed by the # sign
- Re-enter your password followed by the # sign
- Your password has been reset
Changing your header name
Connect to Audix by dialing x5001 or 508.910.5001 if you are off campus. Enter your phone extension and password. Then:
- Press 5 to review a list of options
- Press 5 again to reset your header name
- Press 1 and then record your name
- Press 1 again to stop the recording
- Press the # sign to approve
Changing your voicemail message
Connect to Audix by dialing x5001 or 508.910.5001 if you are off campus. Enter your phone extension and password. Then:
- Press 3 to change your voicemail greeting
- Press 1 to create a new greeting
- Enter a greeting number (1-9) and wait for the tone, then create your greeting
- Press 1 to stop recording when you’re finished
- Press 2 followed by 3 to review the greeting
- Press *D to re-record the greeting
- Press the # key to approve the recording
- Press 1 to activate your new greeting for all calls

Dialing information
On-campus calls
Listen for dial tone. Dial four-digit numbers only. Example: 8000.
Local calls: New Bedford area (access code "7")
Listen for dial tone. Dial "7." Wait for second dial tone. Dial the ten-digit phone number.. Example: 7 + 508.910.4000.
Local calls in the immediate area which require dialing ten digits are Mattapoisett, Rochester, and Westport. Dial "7." Wait for second dial tone, then dial ten digits.
Local calls: Fall River area
Dial "7," wait for second dial tone. Dial desired ten digits. Example: 7 + 508.678.7521.
Long distance/out-of-state
Student service includes the ability to dial long distance only via the use of prepaid calling cards using 800/888/877/866 numbers. Calling cards may be obtained at the Campus Store or other retail outlets. This is the only method of placing long distance calls (those outside the local calling area). Any long distance telephone calls charged to the University are illegal. Students doing so will be billed the cost of the call, and will be subject to disciplinary action which may include fines.
Calling UMass Dartmouth from off-campus
To contact any office from off-campus telephones, use the following method of dialing:
- For extensions starting with 1100-1199, dial 508.985.xxxx
- For extensions starting with 1400-3999, dial 774.929.xxxx
- For extensions starting with 4000-6999, dial,508.910.xxxx
- For extensions starting with 8000-8999, dial 508.999.xxxx
- For extensions starting with 9000-9099, dial 508.910.xxxx

Collect Calls
Accepting collect calls on university telephones is prohibited.
Third-party
Charging calls from an off-campus number to a UMass Dartmouth number is prohibited by the Commonwealth and by UMass Dartmouth.
