About the Contest
In spring 2005, Computing & Information Technology Services (CITS) sponsored a contest to name the new self-service system. The contest was open to students, faculty and staff. The prize for the winning name was an Apple iPod.
There were 160 entries for the contest. A committee made up of two CITS staff members, two students and a faculty member reviewed all the entries. It was a difficult decision, because all the committee members had to agree on the same name. We chose COIN, Corsairs Online INformation, because it:
- references the universitys mascot
- describes the system
- is short and easy to remember
- can be represented by an image
The contest winner was Erin Adams, a junior biology major. Erin was working in Ireland this summer, so she wasn't available for us to take a photo of her receiving her new iPod. Heres what Erin said about the contest:
How did you find out about the contest?
I was waiting in line somewhere and saw a sign for the contest.
How did you come up with the name for the student self-service system?
It was during finals, so I started thinking up names one day as a study break and ended up with COIN.
How do you feel about winning?
Spectacular! I cant really complain, I was going to buy one, but now I dont have to!
What music will go on your new iPod right away?
Muse, The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, Jack Johnson, Radiohead, Gomez, Queens of the Stone Age....way too much more stuff to list.
