Apply to College Now/START

To apply for admission to the College Now/START program, please choose one of the following options:

Enrollment is limited, and the program is offered only to those entering the university in September (fall semester). College Now applicants are for Massachusetts residents only and also must respond to either first generation college bound and/or low income defined by federal guidelines. START applicants are for students interested Engineering, Math, Computer and Information Science, and Physics. An on-campus personal interview and testing are required prior to an admission decision.

Using the College Now/START online application

Please read these important instructions, which will help you complete the online application process.

To apply online, please make sure you have all the required information. You cannot make corrections to your application after you submit it. Make sure to review your information when given the chance before submitting the application. If you must make a correction later, contact the College Now/START Program office: 508.999.8703.

Information you'll need:

  • Personal information, including social security number and family information
  • Residency information
  • Emergency contact information
  • If you are a permanent resident, your permanent resident card number and your birth country and city
  • Your high school attendance and graduation dates

If you have attended other colleges before applying to UMass Dartmouth, have those attendance dates and (if applicable) graduation dates available; additionally, you will need to list any current courses/credits (if applicable)

Online Application

An on-campus personal interview and testing is required prior to an admission decision. After you complete the online application process, we still need to receive by mail the items listed below.

Please write your name and identification number on every item you send in the mail.

  • An official transcript from your high school
  • Application Fee or Fee Waiver
  • First-quarter senior-year grades
  • SAT I scores (math and critical reading) We recommend that you have the official results of the SAT I sent to us by the Educational Testing Service. We can also accept SAT I scores from your school as long as they are recorded on an official transcript. It is important to have your scores sent as early as possible in your senior year to ensure a complete evaluation of your application. You may substitute the results of the ACT for the SAT I. If applicable, also see the exemptions from testing requirement section.
  • An essay or personal statement on a topic of your choice
  • One letter of recommendation
  • If applicable, college transcripts
  • If applicable, a copy of the GED certificate from the state and a copy of your GED test record

Using the Common Application

The Common Application is a not-for-profit membership organization that, since its founding, has been committed to providing reliable services that promote equity, access, and integrity in the college application process. It serves students, member institutions, and secondary schools by providing applications—online and in print—that students and school officials may submit to any of their members. UMass Dartmouth is a proud member of The Common Application.

Apply through The Common Application

When applying through the Common Application, you must complete the Member Questions section by selecting College Now or START as your first preference academic program.  The specific area that you are interested in studying should be entered as your second preference.  It is extremely important that you select College Now or START to ensure appropriate processing of your application.

An on-campus personal interview and testing is required prior to an admission decision. After you submit the Common Application, including the personal essay, the following application materials are needed to complete your application. If you are mailing application materials, please write your name and identification number on every document.

  • An official transcript from your high school
  • Application Fee or Fee Waiver
  • First-quarter senior-year grades
  • SAT I scores (math and critical reading) We recommend that you have the official results of the SAT I sent to us by the Educational Testing Service. We can also accept SAT I scores from your school as long as they are recorded on an official transcript. Using the paper application

Print the UMass Dartmouth paper application.

Complete the application.  Be sure to select Alternative Admission College Now or START in Section B. Admission Category. Mail the application and all application materials to the College Now/START Program.

An on-campus personal interview and testing is required prior to an admission decision. After you complete the paper application, we still need to receive by mail the items listed below.
