April 1, 2002 Author Arthur Golden to speak at UMD Library benefit When Arthur Golden's novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, was published, readers and reviewers were amazed that a fortiesh white man could have written so convincingly in the first-person voice of a young Japanese geisha-in-training. Area residents will have the opportunity to learn more about Golden and his international bestseller at an April 28 author's brunch to benefit the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Library. March 27, 2002 There's nothing better than being highly regarded in your own hometown. Dartmouth residents graded UMass Dartmouth "excellent" when asked to rate the "quality of services/facilities available" in the town in a survey conducted by the university's Center for Policy Analysis for the Dartmouth Open Space and Recreation Committee.. Although the statistical difference between the university's rank and second-place fire protection is insignificant (40.1 % to 39.9 %), the fact that 2,491 residents feel this way about UMD is hugely gratifying to the campus. And 50.8% rated the university's service as "good."
