Weekly Groups 

 

All groups are open to part-time and continuing education students, as well as full-time students. Where noted, groups are also open to faculty and staff.    Most of our groups allow new members to join throughout the semester.

Fabulous First Year Group.   This support group for first year students and transfers will focus on academic success, getting connected socially, finding the right activities and organizations for you, leaving home, and figuring out UMass Dartmouth.   The group meets on Mondays, 5-6:30 pm at the Counseling Center and will start on September 10, 2007.   New members are welcome throughout the year.  For additional information email Amy (atheberge@umassd.edu. )

Depression/Anxiety Support Group.   Meets Tuedays 5-6:30 pm at the Counseling Center.   Starts September 11, 2007.   New members are welcome throughout the year.   For additional information or to sign up, call X8650.

Academic Recovery Group.   This group is for students working on raising their gpa.   It will focus on time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, memory tricks, self-motivation techniques and remedies for test anxiety.   Meets Wednesday 5-6:30 pm.   Starts September 12, 2007.   Questions?   call X8650 or email Amy (atheberge@umassd.edu).

ACOA/Al-Anon Recovery Group.   Counseling and Student Development Center.    Many share the experience of growing up in a home where alcohol affected their lives. They may also find that as adults they share some of the same stresses and problem areas. The group will focus on identifying negative family patterns, addressing these problem patterns and helping each other to find more effective patterns.   For additional information, call X8650 or lfitzsimons@umassd.edu.

Dependency Recovery Group
Meeting Time to be Determined, Counseling and Student Development Center.   Many have made the commitment to lead alcohol/drug free lifestyles and we find that there are many common struggles in maintaining this lifestyle. This group will focus on identifying issues that could lead to a possible relapse and helping each other develop strong recovery skills. Relapse prevention planning will be stressed.   For additional information call X8650 or lfitzsimons@umassd.edu.

Graduate School Workshop
If you are in your junior or senior year and are thinking about attending graduate school, there will be a workshop which will address such questions and concerns as: 1) finding and selecting programs right for you; 2) application and admissions process; 3) test requirements and preparation; 4) filling out the applications; 5) how to obtain an outstanding recommendation; 6) how admission committees will evaluate your application; 7) financial resources; 8) Internet resources.  This is a 2-session workshop that is offered each semester.
