Community Services Program

America READS Tutoring Program

Attention All Students:

We are in desperate need for America Reads Tutors. Federal Work Study is available to those who qualify. Please print out an application, fill it out, and bring it down to the Career Resource Center today. This is an excellent way to earn work study while putting some important community service on your resumé.

Open an adventure... help a child learn to read. Reading is a key to success in education and in life. Unfortunately, many children fall behind in school because they do not learn to read well. The America READS Challenge is a national movement that stresses the importance of communities coming together to ensure all children are reading well by the fourth grade. As a UMD America Reads Tutor, you will make a difference in the lives of children while strengthening your personal, academic and professional skills. You will be matched with a child based on your availability. In addition, training and materials are provided. Students who participate may be eligible for academic credit, internship experience and may be paid through federal work-study. For more information contact: Deirdre Healy, Community Service Coordinator, Career Resource Center, dhealy@umassd.edu ext. 8641.
