What are the advantages of participating in the
program?
Students have the opportunity to develop a learning experience
relevant to his or her abilities, needs and interests. It is an
excellent way to gain more information about an occupation and
to test a tentative career choice. Students will be better prepared
for employment and graduate school; and it also looks great on
a resume.

What types of experiences qualify?
A faculty member of the student's choice, called a faculty sponsor,
and the sponsor's department chairperson must approve the proposed
experience, objectives, credit value, and the evaluation procedure.
(For Business students the Asst. Dean must approve). The faculty
sponsor must be from the department most closely related to the
nature of the experience.

How can I find an internship?
1. Check out the listing of internships in the CRC; Lower level
Group 1 or view online at http://www.umassd.edu/crc/umassdar_student.cfm.
2. Contact the company/agency that interests you to schedule an
interview.
3. Get an Experiential Learning form from the Career Resource
Center if you are doing it for credit only. (The form can be viewed
on the CRC website and one of the forms can be downloaded and
printed).

How many credits can I get for participating
in the program?
The following list are hours of work required to earn a certain
number of credits in a semester:
1 credit = 3 hrs. week-total 45 hrs
2 credits = 6 hrs. week-total 90 hrs
3 credits = 9 hrs. week-total 135 hrs
6 credits = 18 hrs. week-total 270 hrs

Can I participate in the program during the
summer?
The Division of Continuing Education allows students to register
for Experiential Learning. Contact the Career Resource Center
for costs, credit limits and form.
