The Career Resource Center

The EXPERIENCE Program /Internships

Welcome to Internships Program

An internship is an opportunity provided by an employer (also known as a sponsor) to a student (also known as an intern) for the purpose of learning more about a particular field and gaining real world work experience. In return, the employer benefits by having a bright, creative, enthusiastic intern make a meaningful contribution to the sponsoring organization.

Internship is an educational experience that extends beyond the regular courses the University offers. Under the direction of a faculty sponsor (a faculty member of student's choice), arrangements are made to work under the immediate supervision of a supervisor at a work site, which may be located on or off campus. The range of project types and settings is almost limitless, creating ways to enrich one's academic studies. Faculty sponsor and the sponsor's department chairperson must approve the proposed experience, objectives, credit value, and the evaluation procedure. For Business students the Internship Coordinator must approve the internship experience (See business majors section for details). Faculty sponsor must be from the department most closely related to the nature of the experience. The faculty sponsor evaluates the EXPERIENCE program and assigns either a CR or NC grade (Credit or No-Credit) (Business students receive a grade).

The program is administered through the Career Resource Center, where students can obtain assistance in finding a faculty sponsor, a work setting and in completing the required forms. The Division of Professional and Continuing Education allows students to register for the EXPERIENCE program.
