Finding a Job
You can find a complete listing of all student jobs on
the CRC web page at www.umassd.edu/crc/. To view the listing click in
the "Student Employment" menu option found on the left of the screen,
then click on "Student Job Listing". Click the submit button to enter
the MonsterTrak database and then select "Jobs & Internships". Be sure
to select your search criteria from the "Limit Jobs Searched" box on
the lower left of the screen, then search.
If you would like to work for a specific department or
person, contact them right away. Ask if they have any positions available.
If not, ask if they know of anyone with a job opening related to your
interests. Work-study students should feel free to investigate any off-campus,
nonprofit organizations, but do keep in mind that all off-campus organizations
MUST BE NONPROFIT to be eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study
Program. If you do find a job at an off-campus agency, please contact
our office. We have additional paperwork for all off-campus employers.
You may have only one work-study job. However, you may
have two jobs, either two non-work study jobs or one non-work study
and one work-study job.
When you find a job...
Your total work-study allotment is to be earned during
the 2002-2003 academic year, beginning September 3, 2002 and ending
May 17, 2003.
Keep track of how much money you earn. (Your cumulative
earnings will show on your check stub.)
Time Sheets
You submit your weekly hours to your supervisor on a time
sheet. Your supervisor must submit your hours to the Payroll Office
by 10:00 am on Friday.
Your Paycheck
Student checks are now mailed directly to your job site
every Friday. "Direct deposit" is an option, not a requirement. If you
choose this option a check stub specifying the amount deposited will
be mailed to your work address.
All of your earnings for each pay period will be included
in one check. If you have more than one job, please specify to which
employer you would like your check sent.
In Order to Be Eligible to Be Employed as a Student
Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program at UMD.
And
Be enrolled at least half-time:
-
Six or more credit hours as an undergraduate student.
OR
- Four and a half or more credit hours as a graduate student.
And
Work no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year for
one or any combination of departments. The 20 hour per week limit
applies only during the academic year employment periods.
The W-4 and I-9 Forms
If you have not worked for the University during the last
academic year or never worked here, you will need to complete the W-4
and I-9 forms before you begin working.
The W-4 form helps the Payroll Office determine your tax
deductions. You can complete this form at the CRC.
The I-9 form is used to verify your citizenship and eligibility
to work here in the U.S. This form must be completed at the time of
your hire at the CRC. To complete this form you must provide
two forms of identification or a passport. Of the two forms one must
be a photo ID (driver's license, UMD student ID, etc.), and the other
may be a social security card or a certified copy of a birth certificate.
